Introduction

The All Staff Professional Development program offers introductory four-hour sessions or more comprehensive six-hour sessions that explore the everyday experiences of LGBTIQ people and how systemic discrimination affects their health and wellbeing.

Who's it for?

The program is aimed at mixed groups of staff. It’s recommended that people from all areas in an organisation receive at least the four-hour training. The six-hour session allows additional time to engage with LGBTIQ inclusive practice principles and learn about tools and strategies to create lasting cultural change in the workplace.

Syllabus

The training introduces frameworks for understanding sex, gender and sexuality, and participants will explore inclusive practice principles and how to apply these within their organisation.

True Colours — an introduction to LGBTIQ inclusive practice

The four-hour session teaches participants about inclusive practice and ways of working so they can begin to apply these within their organisation.

Participants will:

  • Explore frameworks for understanding sex, gender and sexuality
  • Be introduced to research on LGBTIQ health and wellbeing
  • Learn frameworks that help facilitate LGBTIQ inclusion within a range of workplaces and for a diversity of LGBTIQ people
  • Identify and learn to apply tools and strategies to improve outcomes for LGBTIQ people through individual work practice and organisational change

Evidence to Action — Applying LGBTIQ inclusive practice across your workplace

This full-day training includes all of the content in the four-hour session, with additional information and skills-building so that participants can embed LGBTIQ inclusion within their work practice and the systems of their organisation.

Participants will:

  • Explore frameworks for understanding sex, gender and sexuality
  • Be introduced to research on LGBTIQ health and wellbeing
  • Learn frameworks for embedding LGBTIQ inclusive practice in their own work and across their organisation
  • Practice analysing their current work practice and the ways their organisation can facilitate LGBTIQ inclusion
  • Practice identifying and applying tools and strategies to improve outcomes for LGBTIQ people through individual work practice and organisational change

Star Health

“I gained significant learnings from this session. Most especially around ‘Being an ally’. Combined with the personal stories of the presenters and those in our group it re-shaped my opinions and feelings towards LGBTI community and will improve my ability to work with them.”
